OGDENSBURG -- A Rensselaer Falls man faces multiple drug charges after he allegedly fell asleep behind the wheel of a running vehicle.
Corey J. Brown, 32, of 1201 County Route 14, Rensselaer Falls, was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor, 2 counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th degree (methamphetamine and heroin), criminally possessing hypodermic instruments, all class “A” misdemeanors, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
Brown was charged after patrols responded to the 300 block of Pine Street for the report of a male subject sleeping behind the wheel of a running vehicle. The vehicle had reportedly been there for several hours. As a result of the investigation, the department’s K-9 officer was called to also respond to the scene. After a positive K-9 alert, a search of the vehicle turned up a quantity of marijuana, methamphetamine and heroin, police said.
While Brown was being processed in the triage room at the Claxton Hepburn Medical Center for the DWAI drugs charge, the patrol officer noticed a bulge in his lower back, waist area. Upon inspection the officer found a wallet that had been inadvertently dropped or left in the triage room by the prior patient, according to police.
Brown took the wallet and stuffed into his waist band, police said. The wallet contained cash and credit cards. As a result he was additionally charged with 2 counts of Grand Larceny 4th degree, both “E” felonies, and 1 count of petit larceny, a class “A” misdemeanor. He was arraigned in city court and was sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility on $1,500 cash or $2,000 bond.
