OGDENSBURG – City councilors Michael Morley and Dan Skamperle opposed the removal of an unnamed “paper” street at a Tuesday meeting.
City council voted 5-2 to remove the street from the city map in order to make the city-owned lots adjacent to the narrow lane more marketable.
Morley said he opposed the measure because the city shouldn’t be too quick to give up something it owns.
He said the lots should be marketable without removing the street and that if a buyer was interested in the addition portion of the property, it could be discussed once there is an offer.
Skamperle agreed that council didn’t need to remove the street in order to market the property, however the rest of council voted to remove the paper street anyway.
The street, which exists but is narrower than a normal road sits between Paper Rosseel Street and Plover Hill.
The ultimate goal is to subdivide several lots along former road and market the property, according to city councilors.
