A Heuvelton man is part of an organizing committee helping to form a North Country chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.

The committee men, all descendants of patriots who served the American cause, are applying to the Empire State Society - Sons of the American Revolution for a chapter charter.

The group met Aug. 27 at the Macsherry Library in Alexandria Bay to put plans in motion for a Thousand Islands chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.

Parks Honeywell of Redwood and Trinity, Fla. agreed to serve as initial chapter president and registrar.

Joel Bixby of Heuvelton will serve as secretary/treasurer.

Jerry Halstead of Watertown will be vice president.

Rev. Edgar Hunter will be chaplain.

Steven Perkins will serve as sergeant-at-arms.

Seventeen area members will comprise the chapter's charter members.

Four additional applicants are in process for national member status. Thirty prospective regional members have been identified who have expressed interest.

When approved for membership by the end of 2012, all will be recorded as charter members of the Thousand Islands Chapter.

Interested persons should contact Parks Honeywell at 212-9077.
