Rain, then some wintry weather headed into North Country, forecasters say

Wet weather is in store for St. Lawrence County over the next several days, which could include some freezing rain and sleet on Saturday and Sunday, according to the National weather service.

A large and slow moving storm system is expected to impact the North Country Friday through early next week with several potential hazards. Forecasters say it’s not certain, but they have issued a hazardous weather outlook for wintry precipitation, including snow, sleet and freezing rain, which they say is likely Saturday through Sunday night, with some moderate to locally heavy rainfall possible Monday into Monday night.

A warm front approaching the North Country will bring rain to the region from early afternoon today through midnight. But temperatures will remain on the cool side through the period.

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

• Today: Rain, mainly after 1pm. High near 48. Light south wind increasing to 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

• Tonight: Rain before 10pm, then a chance of showers between 10pm and 2am. Low around 36. West wind 10 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

• Friday: Showers likely, mainly after 4pm. Cloudy, with a high near 44. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

• Friday Night: Rain. Low around 32. Northeast wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

• Saturday: Rain and sleet likely before 9am, then freezing rain and sleet. High near 33. Northeast wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

• Saturday Night: Freezing rain and sleet. Low around 28. Northeast wind 11 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

• Sunday: Freezing rain and sleet before 1pm, then rain and sleet between 1pm and 2pm, then rain after 2pm. High near 40. East wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

• Sunday Night: Rain. Low around 37. East wind 11 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

• Monday: Rain. High near 50. East wind around 10 mph becoming south in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

• Monday Night: Rain showers likely before 2am, then rain and snow showers likely between 2am and 3am, then snow showers likely after 3am. Cloudy, with a low around 33. Southwest wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

• Tuesday: Rain and snow showers likely. Cloudy, with a high near 41. West wind 10 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

• Tuesday Night: A chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 31. West wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

• Wednesday: A chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 44. West wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
