CANTON – A hearing into a program that can help struggling would-be house buyers with a down payment and closing costs is set for 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 25 in County Courthouse Room 225, 48 Court St.
Staff from the county Planning Office and the North Country Housing Council will provide an overview of the county’s plan to pursue a $750,000 grant that would provide down-payment and closing-cost assistance to eligible first-time house buyers.
In addition to receiving financial assistance, people from participating low- to moderate-income households attend classes to learn about household budgeting, applying for a mortgage, day-to-day challenges of owning a house, and maintaining the house.
