CANTON – A truck pulled down some power lines downtown shortly before noon Thursday, knocking out power in the immediate downtown area, some residences, and Canton Central School.
Canton police said the truck turned onto Church Street and got hooked on some overhead wires, pulling them down and snapping a pole before the driver realized what was happening.
Police had to direct traffic at Main, Court and Park streets due to the failure of the traffic signal in the power outage.
National Grid was reported on the scene within 15 to 20 minutes and soon had power restored.
No tickets were issued and no one was reported hurt.
Police said according to the database they access, the truck belongs to a Native American tribe in Oklahoma.
