POTSDAM – Potsdam’s water, wastewater and hydro plant chief operator is leaving for another job after 16 years in the village.
Robert Henninger’s last day of work in Potsdam is Monday, Sept. 19, after which he signs on as chief operator of Ogdensburg’s wastewater treatment plant, working for the Development Authority of the North Country, which is contracted to run the plant.
He began his career path in the Air Force, learning the job and rising in positions through 12 plants over the 20 years he was in the military, also teaching other operators.
“This will be my 15th wastewater treatment plant,” Henninger said.
“It’s been an honor that I was given the opportunity to serve this community. It’s time to move and help some other community,” he said.
He is chair of the Northern New York Waterworks Training Conference, which trains operators to get their state licenses, and has participated in many of the Local Government Conferences held every year at SUNY Potsdam.
“I do the public works tracks” for the conference attendees, “and I will continue the training sessions. My new employer has no problem with that. They’ll benefit from it too.”
Active for years in the Norwood American Legion, Henninger says he will continue calling the Norwood post his Legion home.
