POTSDAM -- The YCC Potsdam Crew raked, cut down trees, and cleared brush at Fort Jackson Park in Hopkinton recently, on a plot that could be used for campgrounds next summer.
The Potsdam Crew has also worked for Norwood American Legion, Norwood Norfolk Rod and Gun Club, Pleasant Mound Cemetery, Department of Public Works, Hopkinton Park, and Parishville Park. In addition, the crew has traveled to various spots in St. Lawrence County to pick up garbage.
Crew Supervisor Jenn Gray said it was not easy to choose co-crew leaders because all the members display leadership and an outstanding work ethic.
Co-Crew Leader Stephen Davis said, “It’s nice to give back to the community.”
Concerned about the threat of cuts to the YCC budget, the crew and supervisor agreed that they want the program to continue.
Dillon Smith said “It establishes job experience for youth.” Co-Crew Leader Nick Emens agreed, saying it “builds teamwork and character.”
All crew members said they prefer their current work over the other choices of employment available for their age group.
