POTSDAM – Two cars ended up off the road overturned in an accident Friday that resulted in the airlifting of one of the drivers to Syracuse for medical attention for serious injuries.
St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies say they received a call at 4:39 p.m. to the intersection of State Rt. 345 and Sullivan Road, the scene of a two-vehicle accident.
The collision occurred when a Ford Focus operated by Mackenzie R. Wagstaff, 18, Racquette Road, Potsdam, entered Rt. 345 headed toward Potsdam and was struck on the driver’s side by a Jeep driven by Illyssa W. Carty, 29, of Lenny Road, Potsdam.
Both cars went off the road, overturning, deputies said.
Wagstaff was extricated from her car with the Jaws of Life and flown by Lifenet 710 to Upstate Medical Center in serious condition, according to deputies.
Carty and a passenger in her vehicle, Bryce M. Carty, 6, were checked at the scene by Potsdam Rescue and declined transport to a hospital.
The Sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by Potsdam fire and rescue volunteers and the West Potsdam Fire Department.
Deputies said the investigation of the accident continues.
