POTSDAM – A Potsdam man who allegedly tried to stop firefighters from extinguishing a fire was arrested for criminal possession of a weapon Monday after St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies discovered four rifles and a shotgun in his house.
Donald R. Jackman, 92, 420 NYS Hwy. 11B, was cited because he is prohibited from possessing weapons due to a prior conviction, deputies said.
Deputies were called to his property for assistance after he attempted to prohibit Potsdam firefighters from putting out a fire he had set in a dilapidated structure he owned on his property.
While investigating the open burn violation, for which he was ticketed, deputies discovered the firearms.
Jackman is to face both charges in Town of Potsdam Court on May 3, deputies said.
