POTSDAM -- Potsdam Central Student Bonnie Smyth has developed a brochure designed to educate the community about the harmful effects of second-hand smoke and tobacco use in general.
The brochure, titled “Protect Potsdam,” highlights the impact of tobacco smoke on the health and well-being of the general public and the youth of her community.
“I did not realize how harmful tobacco is to people, animals, and the environment until I participated in the Tobacco-Free Outdoors Program”, said Smyth. “It is important to me that the people of our community are educated about the harmful effects of tobacco, and take action to protect the people and environment."
The brichure includes facts about second-hand smoke, tobacco litter, and the ways that youth model the behavior of adults. Smyth will be distributing the brochures to health care office waiting rooms in the Potsdam area.

Potsdam Central health teacher Heather Cowen-Wilson said, "Bonnie is a hardworking young adult. She is a strong anti-tobacco advocate who has worked hard promoting this excellent cause. I'm very proud of her."
