POTSDAM -- Laurell Brault, the founder and coordinator of the Potsdam Snack Pack Program, talks with host Donna Seymour in the first North Country Matters show of 2019.
This community-based effort to ensure local children have enough food on the weekends has grown, said a press release from North Country Matters.
The Potsdam program started in 2016 for 40 students and has expanded to meet the needs of 289 students, including 30 Head Start children.
In addition to providing Snack Packs for the weekend, the Potsdam program has been able to help with emergency food for families left homeless in recent fires and for those facing financial hardship during things like the federal government shutdown.

North Country Matters is a local public affairs video magazine now in its 14th year.
The NCM civic partners working to educate North Country residents about critical public policy issues facing our region are the League of Women Voters of St. Lawrence County and the Potsdam Public Library.
The shows are filmed in the Fred W. Cleveland Computer Center at the Potsdam Library.
The shows are always available on YouTube.
