POTSDAM – Two people were arrested early Friday for allegedly stealing a golf cart from Clarkson’s Cheel Arena and driving it down Elm Street while the driver was intoxicated, according to village police.

David M. Kubiak, 26, Rochester, was charged with driving while intoxicated, unauthorized use a vehicle, operating an unregistered motor vehicle on a highway, operating a motor vehicle without insurance and operating a motor vehicle without headlights.

His companion, Jenna McDermott, 23, Dayton, Ohio, was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Both were issued tickets returnable to village court on April 27.

Police report they observed the two at 12:35 a.m. traveling on Elm Street in the vicinity of the Potsdam Police Department in a golf cart. When police stopped the cart, Kubiak and McDermott allegedly admitted they had stolen the cart from the arena.

Kubiak later submitted to a breath test revealing a blood alcohol content of .17 percent, above the .08 percent legal limit.
