CANTON – The Potsdam High School girls hockey team goes for the informal state title this weekend after beating Canton to take the Section X championship for the second year running.
The tournament, originally scheduled to begin Friday but pushed back a day due to expected bad weather, starts at noon Saturday at the Canton Pavilion with a matchup against the girls from Alexandria Bay.
Teams from Kenmore, near Buffalo, and Beekmantown, near Plattsburgh, play in a 2 p.m. contest.
The championship game is at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Pavilion.
Potsdam Athletic Director Mark Wilson said state sporting authorities have not set up a championship for girls hockey beyond sectional titles, with fewer than 20 competitive teams this year, but coaches and players wanted to play on, so this tournament was arranged.
