Potsdam, Hannawa, Brasher hope to help set Guinness record during World’s Largest Swimming Lesson June 14

The Potsdam Recreation Department's beaches at Postwood Park in Hannawa Falls and Sandstoner Park in Potsdam, and the pool at Brasher Falls Elementary School are all sites in the World's Largest Swimming Lesson on Tuesday, June 14.

The 45-minute swimming lessons are aimed at setting a Guinness Book of World Records mark for the most people to have a swimming lesson at the same time, 11 a.m.

The other chief aim of the event is to build awareness about the importance of teaching children to swim to help prevent drowning.

There are places all over the globe in the event, but Potsdam, Hannawa Falls and Brasher Falls are the only places in the North Country taking part, and are three of only seven places in the state north of the New York Metropolitan Area who are participating.

The Brasher event will be for the universal pre-kindergarten classes only, with some older students helping out.

No registration at Postwood or Sandstoner beaches is required.

More information is at www.worldslargestswimminglesson.org.

Potsdam Recreation will also be taking registrations at the event for their six-week swimming lesson program that runs from June 27 to Aug. 5.
