Potsdam Chamber looking for new executive director after McKenna steps down

POTSDAM – The Potsdam Chamber of Commerce is looking for a new executive director after Maggie McKenna has stepped down.

McKenna has accepted a job as executive director of the SLC Arts Council. She is also a village trustee in Potsdam.

“It is with great sorrow that I have to announce that I am leaving the Potsdam Chamber of Commerce. Though I have only been in the role for eight months, I have had an incredible experience getting to know many of you and understanding our community in a new way,” McKenna said.

McKenna took over for John Morrison, who held the position for about three months. He had taken over the role from long-time executive director Marylee Ballou. Ballou stepped down in early 2018 to pursue other opportunities.

“I will be continuing to do similar work when I transition next week to my new role as executive director of the SLC Arts Council, and I look forward to working with the Potsdam Chamber as well as other great local organizations to help unite our community and bolster our economy,” McKenna said.

The chamber board is accepting applications for the executive director position and plans to hold interviews soon. A resume and cover letter can be emailed to director@potsdamchamber.com.

In the meantime, Brittany Ashley will take the reins as interim director.

“Brittany is a huge asset to this organization, she and I have been a great team for the last few months, and I know she will continue to do an amazing job for this organization and our community.

The board has decided to change office hours to 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Check their Facebook page for any updates like office closures because of meetings and inclement weather. An appointment is appreciated, especially when they have limited staff. Ashley will be available to contact next week at director@potsdamchamber.com

“I want to thank you all for all the support you have given me personally and professionally, and I'm sure I will end up working with all of you in some way or another in the new role. Feel free to message me on Facebook or Instagram to stay in touch,” McKenna said.
