POTSDAM — The reduction in the number of testing days from three to two is a very positive move for our students, said Potsdam Central Superintendent Joann Chambers.

“We believe the length of the assessments is still sufficient to give us good information about what our students know and are able to do,” she said.

The 3-8 assessments serve as a benchmark that helps schools determine if students are on track to pass high school Regents exams necessary to earn a diploma.

“The reduction in the length of the testing allows us to keep the focus where it should be - on teaching and learning,” she said.

PCS usually receives the results of the assessments in August.

“The reduction meant less disruption to our normal school routine and less stress on students,” Chambers said.
