OGDENSBURG – Ogdensburg city police say a methamphetamine lab may have been inside a house at 312 Ogden St. where a fire occurred Sunday, Jan. 13 at around 8 p.m. that left one resident with burns and two responding police officers with smoke inhalation.
Due to fire damage, forensic tests at a crime lab are needed to confirm if there was a lab at the home.
The state police Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team was called in to assist in the investigation due to the possibility a lab may have been set up in the home, said police.
Patrolmen and city fire fighters were called to the residence for the structure fire at about 8:19 p.m., said a press release from the police department.
The first police officer arriving at the site helped three individuals escape the smoke filled house, police said. The city fire department was able to quickly extinguish the fire after arriving at the scene, said the press release.
The injured resident and the two patrolmen who suffered smoke inhalation at the scene were all treated at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center.
The investigation is ongoing, said police.
