POTSDAM – Village police have identified the woman seriously injured early this morning when she walked into the path of a front-end loader.
Police said Erin Freitag, 27, Potsdam, has been transferred to Fletcher-Allen Medical Center, Burlington, Vt., for treatment after first being taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital by the Potsdam Volunteer Rescue Squad.
Police said a village Department of Public Works front-end loader was working in the downtown parking lot behind the PROSH building on Main Street when Freitag walked into its path and was struck by a rear tire while it was backing.
WWNY-tv is reporting the tire rolled over her stomach area.
Potsdam police were assisted at the scene by the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department with use of their laser-measuring device.
