POTSDAM -- State police have identified a victim in Tuesday night’s crash that sent one person to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, Vt.

Andrew S. Gearsbeck, 22, of Oswegatchie was airlifted from the Potsdam airport to Burlington for treatment of a possible spinal fracture, troopers said.

One other person was treated at Canton-Potsdam Hospital but was not flown to Burlington, as initially reported by the Potsdam Fire Department. Helen M. Lasbrooks, 76, of Gouverneur was taken to C-PH after complaining of pain her in shoulder and was later released.

Gearsbeck was driving a 2001 Dodge Intrepid southbund on state Route 56 just south of Pleasant Valley Road when he drifted into the oncoming lane and struck head-on a 2002 Dodge Caravan operated by Lasbrooks, troopers said.

A passenger in Lasbrooks’ vehicle, 72-year-old Donna L. Sinclair of Gouverneur, was not injured, according to troopers.

Potsdam fire officials said they were dispatched at 4:35 p.m.

Gearsbeck was ticketed for failure to keep right.
