CANTON -- A 22-year-old from the Bronx has been arrested and at least three more arrests are expected in the break-in at the video, card and board game store Gamer Craze in Canton Feb. 6.

Arend L. Augustus, a former SUNY Canton student and a resident of an apartment at 13 Hodskin St., has been arrested after execution of a search warrant at the apartment.

He was charged with tampering with physical evidence, a class E felony; possession of burglar tools, criminal possession of marijuana, and criminal possession of stolen property, all misdemeanors; and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Canton Police Chief Lori McDougal said three individuals broke through a wall dividing the former Mexican restaurant Spicy Iguana and Gamer Craze at 21 Miner St. sometime between 9 and 11:15 p.m. Super Bowl Sunday.

She said officers executed the warrant after police noticed a strong odor of marijuana they say was coming from within the apartment.

McDougal said officers located roughly an ounce of marihuana and drug paraphernalia. “During the execution of the warrant police also discovered numerous items of evidence from the burglary at Gamer Craze, which included remnants from a safe that was stolen at that location,” McDougal said.

Augustus was arraigned before Canton Town Justice Monroe and remanded to County Jail on $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.

Augustus is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on February 17 at 1 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing, and at least three more arrests are expected, McDougal said.
