Patricia Campanella of Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence NYSARC’s President of the Board of Directors, has been selected as The Arc New York’s Volunteer of the Year.

The award honors a volunteer member who has shown continued dedication, exemplary service, and advocacy on behalf of individuals who have intellectual or other developmental disabilities in New York.

“Pat has been an integral part of decisions that have reformed the disability field,” said St. Lawrence NYSARC Executive Director Howard Ganter. “Her advocacy efforts helped make important changes at both the state and local levels of The Arc New York and benefitted individuals we support with enhanced services that promote full integration and personal outcomes.”

Campanella has been instrumental in fostering the growth of the agency for 40 years, the announcement from SLNYSARC said. During her tenure, the organization has grown from supporting 100 people to over 767 now. She has been chapter board president since June 1984. Other local chapter volunteer efforts include as a member of Personnel, Community Residence, Development, Membership, Nomination, Guardianship, and Incident Review committees.

Campanella also serves as a trustee for the Foundation of St. Lawrence NYSARC.

Campanella has been on Arc’s NY Board of Governors for 35 years. She was regional vice president of the state organization for 10 years and was the central region representative for five years. She served on several committees as part of The Arc NY’s Executive Committee and was secretary from 2010 to 2011. She has been the chairperson of the Board Orientation Workgroup since 2013.

“Pat has demonstrated consistent and committed leadership for both The Arc New York and for our chapter, in the face of many challenges,” said St. Lawrence NYSARC Vice President Jackie Sauter. “Her knowledge of the issues and specifics facing our organization is vast and deep, the result of decades of involvement and hard work.”
