OGDENSBURG -- City police say they charged an Ogdensburg woman with a felony for allegedly receiving thousands of dollars in unemployment benefits to which she was not entitled.

Melissa J. LaVair, 30, of 716 Main St. Apt. 1 was charged Thursday with third-degree grand larceny.

Det. Daniel Mousaw said Department of Labor investigators learned she collected $8,686 in unemployment benefits while working, to which she was not entitled.

She was arraigned in Ogdensburg City Court and released on her own recognizance, Mousaw said.
