Ogdensburg, Potsdam airports getting $655K for improvements

Ogdensburg International and Potsdam Municipal airports are getting a total of $655,866 for improvements, according to an announcement today by Congressman Bill Owens.

The existing pavement at Potsdam Municipal Airport, or Damon Field, requires rehabilitation to ensure safe airfield operations, and will receive $594,116 to reconstruct the taxiway.

Ogdensburg International Airport will receive $61,750 to update the airport layout plan, a project that is needed to better guide future development and reflect changes made since the last update, according to Owens’ announcement.

“North Country airports are tremendous drivers of the local economy, and by giving these facilities the resources they need to enhance their operations, we can help to bring more business to the area,” Owens said. “The more we support local travel, the more we bolster local economic development.”

"We are very pleased to receive continuing federal assistance to develop Damon Field. We also would like to recognize our volunteer airport manager, Brad Clements for the amount of time he contributes to the airport, and former administrator Mike Weil for the effort he put into this particular project. This taxiway will help to expand business and emergency services use of our airport," said David Fenton, Administrator for the Village of Potsdam.

"This project will continue to support aviation needs in Northern New York through future air infrastructure improvements," said Wade Davis, Executive Director of the Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority.

The grants are from the U.S. Department of Transportation through the Federal Aviation Administration.
