OGDENSBURG – Ogdensburg Mayor Wayne Ashley proclaimed June 3 as Philip Cosmo Day in honor of the retiring comptroller who has been with the city for more than three decades.

Philip A. Cosmo was appointed City Jan. 4, 1985 and was appointed to the position of Assistant City Manager on Feb. 18, 1988, to act in the temporary absence of the City Manager.

Cosmo was also appointed as Interim City Manager from Sept. 30, 2005 through Feb. 1, 2006, and from Dec.19, 2011 to Oct.14, 2012.

“During these years of service, Philip Cosmo has conveyed a sense of professionalism and administered the financial operations in the best interest of the taxpayers of the City of Ogdensburg,” Ashley said in his proclamation.

Ashley said that throughout his public service Cosmo has displayed the highest degrees of professionalism and integrity and has earned the admiration and respect of his colleagues for his “dedication, enthusiasm, professionalism, sense of humor and hard work.”

Cosmo received a plaque from the council and thanked the council for the honor. He said his time as city manager went by quickly and offered appreciation for those he has worked with over the years. He said many members of Ogdensburg city staff do not receive the credit they deserve.

“I’d like to recognize folks that have worked with me over the years. Without them, I wouldn’t be here today,” he said.

Tim Johnson, who is currently employed in the comptroller’s office, will fill Cosmo’s position.
