OGDENSBURG -- An Ogdensburg man was arrested Saturday for attempting to solicit a child under age 16 for sex, according to the Ogdensburg Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit.
Kevin M. McCarthy Jr., 30, was charged with third-degree criminal solicitation, felony, police said.
Ogdensburg police investigators, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations and the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Unit conducted a joint investigation on Saturday evening in Ogdensburg.
McCarthy allegedly had contact with and engaged in communication with a child purported to be under the age of sixteen and attempted to meet the child somewhere in Ogdensburg.
McCarthy was taken into custody at the agreed-upon time and place, investigators said.
McCarthy is being held in lockup at the Ogdensburg Police Department and will answer his charges in Ogdensburg City Court on Sunday.
Despite being charged with a violation of state law, federal charges may be pending, officers said.
The joint operation agencies were also assisted by the Village of Potsdam Police Department.
