OGDENSBURG -- As Ogdensburg continues its financial struggle, Pepsi Cola Ogdensburg Bottlers has stepped in to ensure kids will be able to swim at the municipal pool at no cost.

For the second year the company has donated $5,000 to the Parks and Recreation Department to allow free use of the Elsa M. Luksich Municipal Pool for the summer season.

The department will continue to charge for programs at the city pool – swimming lessons, early bird adult swim, infant/toddler swim and pool parties.

The pool is slated to open to the public on Saturday, June 16 at noon.

The pool had been a point of contention during recent budget negotiations as the city struggles to cover operating costs. In 2016 pool fees were raised to $1 for children and $2 for adults.

In 2017 Pepsi Cola Ogdensburg Bottlers owners Dick and Bonnie Wright of Ogdensburg were awarded the Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce Citizens of the Year Award.

"The Wrights were recognized for their many contributions to many organizations. The family continues significant support to the Richard E Winter Cancer Center, the Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club and many others not in only in the Ogdensburg area but all over St. Lawrence County," the chamber said in a news release.
