Ogdensburg hospital’s renal center honored for patient safety

OGDENSBURG -- Recently, Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center’s Agarwal Renal Center was awarded a plaque for the achievement of the 5-Diamond Patient Safety Program.

The 5-Diamond Patient Safety Program, created by the Mid-Atlantic Renal Coalition and the Network of New England is designed to increase awareness of, promote, and build a culture of patient safety.

All renal staff, including physicians, and renal patients participated in the learning program. Rich Pandel, director at the Agarwal Renal Center, stated, “This award was not something that was mandated. The facility decided to go above and beyond for the benefit of our patients.”

He continued, “Great job to our Renal Team and special thanks to Kandy Simmons who helped organize the program.”

The facility also recently established a home hemodialysis program that consists of over 20 percent of our current patient population. That statistic is over double the national average.

Home dialysis programs are designed to improve quality of life and independence on the part of the patient.
