OGDENSBURG -- The city is hoping to add more exercise equipment to the Maple City Trail, with help from a $4,000 grant.
On Monday city council agreed to seek a Community Health Award from Excellus Blue Cross BueShield following a request from Ogdensburg Parks and Recreation Department Director Matthew Curatolo.
In 2013, the city installed an ENERGI outdoor exercise equipment in front of the city pool as part of a St. Lawrence Health Initiative grant.
“It is the first of its kind in St. Lawrence County and it has enhanced the Maple City Trail,” Curatolo said. “I would like to place another two to three along the trail at appropriate junctures.”
At the meeting Deputy Mayor Michael Morley questioned where the equipment would be placed along the trail.
Curatolo said he would present options to the council when and if the city is successful in getting the grant. However Curatolo said he would like to see them in visible well-lit areas that are high traffic to ensure use and deter vandalism.
The city council unanimously agreed to apply for the grant.
