Ogdensburg Frederic Remington Art Museum gets donations

OGDENSBURG - The Frederic Remington Art Museum has received two anonymous gifts which establish a permanent, restricted endowment fund in honor of Robert G. Foster, the father of museum director Laura A. Foster.

The Robert G. Foster Education Endowment is a $60,000 fund, which is in the permanent care of the Frederic Remington Art Museum Foundation, an entity that manages the museum's Long Term Investment Fund. The Foundation's holdings include endowments, of which the principal is permanently protected.

Earnings from the endowment will be used to support the Museum’s educational outreach, which includes a recently expanded menu of programs for children and adults. "The gifts come at a time that perfectly supports the strategic plan and demonstrates one of the important ways that supporters of the Museum work to insure its success," says museum director Laura Foster. The Robert G. Foster Education Endowment will solely benefit the museum's education program.

Robert G. Foster (September 15, 1930 - December 15, 2017) taught English at SUNY Potsdam from 1963 until his retirement in 1999 as Associate Professor Emeritus. He prepared anew for each class, and strived to teach thoughtful analysis of literature and clear, concise writing. A humble person, whose legacy is his friendships, family and students, he was a favorite teacher to many. The museum is very glad to have an education endowment in his name, and hopes it will grow through new gifts to enrich the museum's educational offerings.
