OGDENSBURG -- Ogdensburg Department of Public Work crews will begin phase II of this year’s paving schedule Aug. 22.
Phase II includes Mechanic, Plover Hill and Jersey near Kennedy school and Jefferson and Gates near Madill School and Montroy Park, according to an update to city council.
“We will be working on approaches, structures and other prep work so that we can pave before school reopens in the fall. Work is moving along as scheduled,” Director of Public Works Scott Thornhill said in his report.
Thornhill says the department is also busy with sidewalk repairs.
“Sidewalk work continues at a demanding pace. Crew has wrapped up working on radiuses and is now working on sidewalks. When the CHIP-related work is completed, we will likely add a second crew to sidewalks so that we can complete the work this year,” he said in his update.
Recent downsizes in the past few budgets have reduced the city’s crew. Thornhill said his crews will turn their sights to the city’s growing pothole problems once paving is complete.
“Road cuts and potholes are being addressed as we have time. We will turn our full attention to these issues when primary paving operations have been completed.”
