OGDENSBURG -- City councilors agreed to allow the ‘Holiday Light Up the Night Parade’ following a letter of request from the committee that organizes the event.

The parade which has gown substantially over the past several years will be held Nov. 19 at 6:30 p.m. beginning at Ogdensburg Free Academy.

The parade will continue to Ogdensburg Dobisky Visitors’ Center, where residents will have an opportunity to visit Santa Claus.

Ogdensburg Mayor Wayne Ashley said he was pleased to see the success of the event and added that children from the city and nearby towns always look forward to the event.

“It’s one of our biggest events of the fall,” he said.

All present members of council approved the measure.

The parade typically includes a variety of floats from businesses and organizations as well as vehicles from the fire department and police agencies, said event organizer Kathy Bouchard.

The Greenbelt area is also traditionally decked out in holiday decorations and lights.

Parents are welcome to bring cameras or cellphones to take photos of their kids with Santa.
