OGDENSBURG – Traffic is now traveling on the new section of State Rt. 68 that was built to allow the extension of the runway at Ogdensburg International Airport.
“The project is on track and on schedule,” said Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority Executive Director Wade Davis.
“And the airport construction stays ahead of schedule.”
Mike Flick of the state Department of Transportation office in Watertown said the only work left on the roadway is “some top paving and some minor trim work.”
The road work is part of the extension of the airport’s runway to give jet airliners from companies such as Allegiant enough room to take off and land at Ogdensburg.
The airline announced Tuesday in Ogdensburg that it had set its schedule for flights to and from Ogdensburg and Florida.
Beginning Oct. 5, flights will operate twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, to Sanford, Fla., which is about 27 miles from Orlando and 38 miles from Daytona. Trips to Ft. Lauderdale will take place Sundays and Thursdays beginning Oct. 6.
The airline has begun booking reservations for its flights from Ogdensburg.
