Norwood-Norfolk Central School names Prashaw valedictorian and Eng salutatorian

NORWOOD — Vanessa Prashaw of Norwood has been named the valedictorian and Olivia Eng of Norwood is the salutatorian for the Class of 2018 at Norwood-Norfolk Central School.

Prashaw, daughter of Jeff and Ellie Prashaw, has an average of 97.39. She will graduate with an advanced degents diploma with honors. She has taken honors classes including A.P. American history, English composition 101, as well as upper level sciences including chemistry and physics.

Prashaw was a member of Drama Club all four years and serves as treasurer. She is in National Honor Society and the Academic Distinction Program. She has performed in school musicals since she was a freshman. She played soccer and softball all four years of high school. She is also in chorus, band and Belaires, a small select group of vocalists.

Outside of school, she has volunteered as an altar server for St. Andrew Church since 2008 and as an assistant church school teacher since 2014. She also volunteered at the Potsdam Humane Society in 2014. She works as a babysitter.

Prashaw has been recognized with many awards including: Section X Academic All Northern, The University of Rochester George Eastman Young Leadership Award, and The Rensselaer Polytechnic Medal A Award.

She will attend SUNY Potsdam in the fall to major in psychology.

Eng, daughter of Theresa and the George Eng, has an average of 97.33. She will be graduate with an advanced regents diploma with honors. She has taken honors classes including A.P. American History, English composition 101, as well as upper level chemistry and AP biology.

Eng is a member of National Honor Society and the Academic Distinction Program. She played varsity basketball her freshman, sophomore and junior years. She did indoor track her senior year making it to state level competition for shot put. She has also been a member of the spring track team all four years of high school.

Outside of school, she has volunteered as a youth basketball coach and at the Norwood Duathlon series and Regatta. She volunteers for Autism Awareness.

Eng has been recognized with many awards including: St. Lawrence University Merit Scholarship, the Frederic Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award, Section X first Team All-Northern Athletic Conference Award, Track and Field Hall of Fame at Norwood-Norfolk High School, Wendy’s High School Heisman Award winner.

She will attend St. Lawrence University in the fall to major in pre-law. She plans to pursue a career as a lawyer.
