Norwood Fountain Committee tops off project by adding park area

NORWOOD -- The Save the Fountain Committee says their efforts to restore the historic fountain are complete, and they were able to turn the surrounding area into a community park.

Committee officials say they were able to restore the fountain with its original water flow and encircle it with decorative brickwork. The pumps are solar powered. There are historical panels talking about the fountain and former Norwood Union School.

They also installed a new flag and pole, with a solar light.

The park also has a new memorial brick walkway and trees, in addition to a welcome center and registry book, as well as new park benches and flowering shrubs.

“Positive comments from the community continue to be heard on how beautiful Fountain Park is, in addition to comments from folks who plan to visit and are excited to see it. We encourage all visitors to sign the registry book and share their comments,” committee officials said in an email. “Our mission is completed and we are happy to see Fountain Park in place after more than two years of serving the voices and wishes of the Norwood community.”

The maintenance and upkeep is now entrusted to the Village of Norwood.
