A blustery fall day is in store for the North Country today.

The seasonably warm weather we have had for the last couple of days will dissipate as a cold front that is moving through the region will bring cooler temperatures in its wake.

Temperatures will fall during the day today from near 50 this morning to about 40 this afternoon and to about 30 tonight. Below normal temperatures are expected for the rest of the week.

Gusty winds will peak today at about 33 mph, according to the National Weather Service, and it will remain gusty through tomorrow.

Scattered showers are expected to diminish by this afternoon, the NWS says.

Thursday, there is a chance of rain and snow showers around mid-day and the clouds will be clearing out.

By Thursday night the strong winds are expected to drop and temperatures will be in the mid to upper 20s.

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

• Today: Scattered showers, mainly before noon. Mostly cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 40 by 5pm. Southwest wind 14 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

• Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 29. Southwest wind 8 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.

• Thursday: A slight chance of rain and snow showers between 10am and 1pm, then a slight chance of rain showers after 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 39. Southwest wind 9 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

• Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27. Southwest wind 5 to 11 mph.

• Friday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. West wind 5 to 8 mph.

• Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 22. West wind around 6 mph.

• Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 34. West wind 6 to 8 mph.

• Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 25. South wind 6 to 8 mph.

• Sunday: A chance of rain and snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 37. South wind 9 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
