North Country Assemblyman Marc W. Butler, R-Newport, said he is encouraged by some elements of Gov, Cuomo’s State of the State address last week, but others cause him concern.
“While I think a few [priorities] may be beneficial to my constituents, the devil is always in the details,” Butler said in a satement to the press.
“I am encouraged to see continued investment in downtown revitalization, but would like to see this investment spread more evenly among our upstate communities,” Butler said.
“Any cost-saving efforts he discussed are a burden on local governments, all while he proposed additional costly mandates through his other policy agenda points. Unfunded mandates placed on local government, small businesses, and ultimately, middle-class New York families, continue to be a concern for me and my constituents.”
And Butler said he will wait to see details before he makes up his mind about any proposed measures,
“I will look closely at the details to come forth from these proposals and fight vigorously on the behalf of the people I serve,” he said.
Butler’s 118th Assembly District includes St. Lawrence County towns of Madrid, Norfolk, Stockholm, Parishville, Pierrepont, Clare, Colton, Clifton and Fine
