POTSDAM – Three people who allegedly drove around the village Friday evening using supersoaker water guns to spray pedestrians with vinegar have been charged with harassment and disorderly conduct by village police.

Jonathan M. Zakaraskas, 23, Norfolk, Adam M. Malone, 18, Massena, and Chelsey M. Streeter, 17, Lisbon, were each charged with two counts of second-degree harassment and one count of disorderly conduct. Zakaraskas was additionally charged with failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian and passing a red light.

A fourth passenger, an unidentified male juvenile, was released to his mother. The juvenile officer will speak with him at a later date.

According to police, they received a report at 10:47 p.m. Friday from a man who said he was about to cross the street from Ives Park to go to Market Street with his girlfriend when a vehicle coming from Fall Island failed to stop at the red light.

The man also reported that as the vehicle passed the couple, they were sprayed in the face with vinegar from what he believed was a super soaker.

About 10 minutes later, the suspect vehicle was located on Maple Street behind the car wash.

Patrols located three super soaker water guns inside the vehicle, along with two gallons of vinegar.

Meanwhile, when another patrol was speaking to the victims on Market Street, a group of people reported that the same vehicle had driven by them and the occupants began shouting profanities at them.

After their arrest, the three were issued tickets returnable to Potsdam Village Court on June 29.
