The National Weather Service predicts that skies will remain clear through Tuesday, and clouds will begin to gather Tuesday night, setting us up for rainy periods, possibly heavy Wednesday night.

Showers may linger through next Sunday, NWS says.

Temperatures will drop from their unseasonable warmth this past weekend and today, with daytimes highs mainly in the 60s, and not so cool at night as to create frosty conditions.

The forecast:

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 48. Calm wind.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 70. Calm wind becoming east around 6 mph.

Tuesday Night: Increasing clouds, with a low around 54. Calm wind.

Wednesday: A chance of showers, mainly after 11 am. Cloudy, with a high near 66. Calm wind becoming east between 5 and 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: Rain. Low 45 to 50. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Thursday: Rain likely in the northern part of the county, with the chance set at 60 percent, and slightly lower toward Star Lake and Cranberry Lake. Cloudy, with a high near 62.

Thursday Night: Showers likely. Cloudy, with a low around 51. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Friday: Showers likely. Cloudy, with a high near 64. Chance of precipitation is 50 to 60%.

Friday Night: A chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 45. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Saturday: A chance of showers. Cloudy and breezy, with a high near 57. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Saturday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 43. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
