MASSENA -- The New York Power Authority recently awarded three contracts totaling upwards of $21 million to upgrade transmission facilities at or near the St. Lawrence-Franklin D. Roosevelt Power Project.
Two contracts for $16 million are going to O'Connell Electric Company of Victor and a contract of up to $5 million is going to Greenman-Pedersen, Inc. of Albany, NYPA said in a news release.
O'Connell Electric will do site preparation work for new autotransformers at the St. Lawrence-FDR substation, for which they will be paid $5.2 million. Autotransformers control power voltage, according to NYPA.
The company will also demolish transmission equipment and install 16 power circuit breakers and a capacitor bank at the Robert Moses switchyard. They will receive $10.8 million for the job. A capacitor helps maintain consistent power flow on transmission lines, NYPA said.
Greenman-Pedersen will receive $5 million to inspect and consult for paint jobs and other coatings applied to transmission towers throughout the state, including in St. Lawrence County.
