A rural sports league for 11 communities and 35 teams in league and non-league games for 9- to 12-year-olds is being organized by the North Country Youth Athletic Association.
“When discussing youth baseball and softball with area recreation programs it became clear that this was the right time to combine our efforts and form a rural league,” said Tori Lampett. “By bringing together other growing sports programs in the area we will be able to enhance the social and athletic experience for children in our communities.”
She said the mission is to increase and promote participation and opportunities while developing skills to prepare youth for competitive play through a cohesive effort with rural programs.
The organization expects to expand collaborative efforts for the upcoming soccer and basketball seasons as well.
South league play starts May 14 with north and south division playoffs beginning the fourth week in June.
