New DWI charge means felony for DeKalb man

CANTON – A DeKalb Junction man with a record of convictions for driving while intoxicated was charged with felony DWI after an accident late Wednesday.

St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Elmer James Davis, 43, of 483 Cousintown Rd., following an accident on Cty. Rt. 21 in the town of Canton.

Davis’s vehicle went off the road and struck several trees before re-entering the road, deputies said.

The driver of a vehicle passing by saw what had happened and called 911.

Deputies said Davis was checked by rescue workers before he “signed off” treatment.

Authorities said Davis’s blood alcohol content was .08 percent, and that prior DWI convictions called for elevating the charge to a felony. He was also charged with speed not reasonable and prudent.

Davis was issued tickets returnable in Canton Town Court on March 23.
