A new 30-minute high definition documentary, “Developing the Raquette River,” premieres Saturday, May 21 at 9 a.m. on WPBS-tv, which produced the program.

It will be repeated the next day, Sunday, May 22, at 3:30 p.m.

“Developing the Raquette River” is the third installment of the station’s Raquette River Experience series. This documentary explores the men and women who lived along the river and worked on the dam building projects from the 1950s to today. Eyewitness accounts of life near and around the dams of the Raquette River paints a vivid portrait of life along the river during construction and in its aftermath.

Guest interviews include historian and outdoorsman Mike Prescott, maintenance worker Dan Hurley, carpenter Bill Mousaw, and shovel operator and oiler Glen Thomas, among many more. WPBS-tv, in its announcement of the showings, says it “was honored to have chronicled the stories of these men and women, three of which have since passed.”

WPBS-TV will be hosting a special screening Friday, May 20 at 6 p.m. at The Wild Center, in Tupper Lake. The evening will include refreshments, special bonus footage, and a panel discussion with guests from the documentary. It is free and open to the public; RSVPs to wpbstv.org/tickets will reserve a seat. The screening is sponsored in part by Potsdam Specialty Paper, TAUNY, and The Wild Center.

WPBS-TV will be airing a special presentation of all three episodes of the Raquette River series Monday, May 23 beginning at 9 p.m. with “Developing the Raquette River,” followed by “The Raquette River Experience” at 9:30 p.m. and ending with the “Raquette River Winter Experience” at 10 p.m.

“Developing the Raquette River” will also be available to view online at watch.wpbstv.org, after the on-air premiere.

“Developing the Raquette River” is sponsored in part by Blevin’s Brothers Automotive and Brookfield Renewable Energy.
