POTSDAM – The last Walk with a Doc event of 2018 was held at Cheel Arena at Clarkson University on Saturday, Nov. 24.
A “motivated walking crew” turned out for the event, said Brigette Sanderson with county Public Health, the organization that organized the local version of the national program.
Dr. Gregory Healey, Healey Medical Practice, gave a talk on the harmfulness of sitting, the benefits of physical activity as a person ages, and the importance of getting steps in every day, said Sanderson.
In addition to Healey, four providers came out to walk and answer questions community members had while walking, including Dr. Robert Rogers and Dr. Nick Knowles, both of Canton-Potsdam Hospital; Brittany Terpstra, PA at Community Health Center of the North Country; and Dr. Jessica Scillieri Smith, NYS Department of Agriculture & Markets.
Walk with a Doc programs are held on the last Saturday of every month, sponsored by St. Lawrence County Public Health with its Bridge to Wellness Partners, who encourage county residents to take a step toward better health.
Walk with a Doc is a national non-profit organization whose mission is to encourage healthy physical activity in people of all ages and reverse the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle in order to improve the health and well-being of the country.
