MASSENA -- Cecily LaVigne Morris will appear on the Independence Party ballot line for St. Lawrence County Family Court Judge in the November elections.
The county Board of Elections has determined she filed enough valid designating petition signatures.
She will also appear on the Democratic Party ballot line and has been unanimously endorsed by the St. Lawrence County Conservative Committee.
Morris and volunteers collected and filed 289 signatures – almost double the amount of 151 signatures needed to obtain a spot on the primary ballot.
Currently, 3,026 voters are enrolled in the Independence Party in St. Lawrence County – about 5.1 percent of all active voters.
Morris, a Massena native who is the president of the St. Lawrence County Bar Association, began working in Family Court under Judge David Nelson in 1989 and continues to serve as a court attorney for the court system, primarily in St. Lawrence County Family Court. Prior to her position in the court system, Morris was a private practice partner in LaVigne, Morris and Peets, with concentrations in family law and municipal law. She has also served as the Town Attorney for Massena, Brasher, Lawrence, and Louisville.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to represent the Independence Party during my campaign to be the next St. Lawrence County Family Court Judge – It is very humbling to have the broad-based and active support that we are receiving,” Morris said. “I would like to thank everyone who has helped us get this far.”
Morris says she plans to focus on communicating her experience, qualifications and credentials during the campaign.
