AKWESASNE -- Mohawk International Raceway has put itself in reverse and decided to keep the Pro Stock races going again when the season starts up next year.
When the raceway made the decision to drop the Pro Stock division from its weekly lineup for 2013, there was a lot of feedback from the racers in that division. A meeting was put together to try and help save the class, and overwhelming support for the division persuaded the track to bring back the Pro Stocks.
The Pro Stock meeting was held at the track on Thursday, Dec. 7 and drew support from many local teams trying to keep the division going. The support got the attention of the Mohawk International Raceway staff, which was the reason behind reversing their earlier decision, according to track staff.
In addition to being part of the weekly schedule in 2013, the Pro Stocks will also have a Mohawk Racing Parts Pro Stock Series. Track officials are also working to keep the three-race series that they have had the past couple seasons.
People wanting more information on the division may speak with Jody Swamp at (518) 651-4913.
The Frenchie’s “Chevy Runs Deep” Series as well as the Frenchie’s Ford “Drive One” Sportsman Series will return next year, too.
The St. Lawrence Seaway Sportsman Series that made its debut this past season will also return in 2013. The Sportsman class seems to be on the rise with several area teams moving into the division.
The starting time of each show be 7:30 p.m. as it was during the last part of 2012, and the track plans to speed up the show to get people out of the track at a decent time.
Mohawk will run four weekly divisions in 2013 with the 358 Modifieds, Sportsman, Mod Lites and Bandits filling the regular lineup. Special events will be added over the next couple of months before the schedule is released.
Mohawk International Raceway is in Akwesasne, N.Y., midway between the Seaway International Bridge to Cornwall, Ont. and the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino. From Route 37, turn south onto Frogtown Road.
