On Sunday, Massena police joined an investigation into a missing 12-year-old girl who may have been in the village, Chief Adam Love said.
Police found the child and returned her to her mother.
After she was found, Ernest E. Pantaleo, 27, of 12 Tracy St. was arrested and charged with first-degree rape, felony, and child endangerment, a misdemeanor.
Love said the rape is alleged to have occurred in Massena.
Pantaleo was arraigned by Massena Justice Eric Gustafson and remanded to the St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, in lieu of $10,000 bail or $20,000 bond, police said.
