POTSDAM -- Village police have charged a Michigan man with impeding their investigation into a Saturday hit-and-run where a pedestrian was injured.
Edward H. Martin, 65, of Hale, Mich. was charged with obstruction of a governmental agency and providing a false written statement at 3:12 p.m. Saturday at the Potsdam Police Department.
Police say he gave a false statement and impeded their investigation into a hit-and-run on Elm Street where a man who was allegedly drunk hit someone and fled the scene with a 2-year-old in his car.
Joseph E. Martin, 38, was charged in connection with the collision on Friday with aggravated driving while intoxicated with child in vehicle, driving while ability impaired by drugs/alcohol, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and running a red light.
He was found at his residence, allegedly under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol.
Martin was charged at 7:18 p.m. Friday and released with appearance tickets for Potsdam Town Court on Jan. 9 at noon, police said.
