6,000 swimmers from a record 97 countries participated in the 15th FINA World Masters Championship in Parc Jean Drapeau in Montreal, Canada July 27th-August 10th, 2014, including Northern TRIBS Swimming co-founder, assistant coach and Adirondack district masters swimmer Jessica Jock.
A Massena woman placed among the top 20 in a world swimming tournament that included 6,000 competitors.
Ninety-seven countries participated in the 15th FINA World Masters Championship in Parc Jean Drapeau in Montreal, Que. from July 27 to Aug. 10.
Among them was Massena resident and Northern TRIBS Swimming co-founder, assistant coach, and Adirondack district masters swimmer Jessica Jock.
The FINA event is the federation’s biggest competition in terms of participation, and welcomes all water athletes aged 25 to more than 100 years old from all corners of the world, and includes 50-meter pool swimming, diving, water polo, synchronized swimming and open water swimming.
“FINA nailed it with their slogan, ‘Water is our World’! To be able to participate in such a global event interacting and competing with people from all different cultural backgrounds, languages, ages, abilities, and life journey’s with the commonality of love for water, life, and fitness was surreal. I was honored to just be a participant, and stood in awe watching past Olympians set new World Records in their Age Groups. The 90+ swimmers are the most inspirational! I’ve got my eye on future events, for sure!” Jock said in an email.
Jock, 35, had been training part-time with the club’s competitive swim program throughout the summer. She was entered in four events in the women’s 35-39 age group (long course Meter 200 Backstroke, 100 freestyle, 400 IM, and 50 fly). She placed top 20 in two of her events, and achieved new Adirondack master’s swimming records in three out of four of her events.
Jock’s individual results in the 35-39 LC meter events and new ADMS records are listed below:

• NEW RECORD - 2:53.45 (previous ADMS record 2:54.13 in 2011)
Event #32 women 35-39 LC meter 50 fly
• NEW RECORD - 33.28 (previous ADMS record 35.61 in 1988)
Event #41 women 35-39 LC meter 100 freestyle
• NEW RECORD - 1:09.52 (previous ADMS record 1:11.90 in 1991)
