MASSENA -- The town is now short one code enforcement officer.
Peter Devine resigned last week, effective today, after holding the position for less than a year.
Town Supervisor Joseph Gray said Devine cited not having enough time for his full-time job with the St. Lawrence County Housing Committee.
He was appointed in August as joint town-village code officer, but resigned from his village duties after less than a week because the Massena Fire Department was doing the job. The town and village had agreed to evenly split his salary.
Gray said he is waiting for feedback from the town board on how to proceed. He said his personal feeling is they should negotiate with the village trustees to use the firemen to perform inspections.
